Winter weather

The forest track is a compacted gravel road with one significantly steep section. Vehicles requiring access between November and April are highly likely to require snow chains. Alternatively, vehicles may be left at the bottom of the track in designated area should conditions dictate.

The Charity is not liable for either damage sustained on the track or recovery of stranded vehicles or passengers. If in doubt, please phone ahead and check conditions on the track and please check local weather conditions before travel.

Directions

Located on the Rothiemurchus Estate in the Cairngorm National Park, approximately 7 miles to the east of Aviemore on the A951 and well sign-posted, the entrance to the private road is dominated by a Bailey bridge with a gate on the far side. The route is well marked on the OS Map below, that can be panned and zoomed to show greater detail.

The gate is kept locked and you should be provided with the lock combination prior to your arrival; if not, telephone the Lodge Manager. After crossing the bridge, the lodge is 1.5 miles up the road. Please observe the speed limit of 15mph, as this both preserves the track and ensures the integrity of your vehicle. Please also be aware of walkers and bikers using the track. The Land Reform Act (Scotland) 2003 (and Scottish Outdoor Access Code) permits access through the grounds of the Lodge on a number of recognised paths.
