Sometimes, it's the simplest things that make a place feel welcoming — a comfortable sofa after a day in the mountains, a warm space to gather with friends, or a peaceful evening spent together beside the fire.
At Rothiemurchus Lodge, we're delighted to share some wonderful news. We have been awarded £9,410 through the Scottish Veterans Fund, funded by the Scottish Government, for the 2026/27 financial year. This generous support is helping us make meaningful improvements to our accommodation, ensuring the Lodge continues to offer a comfortable and welcoming retreat for veterans, Armed Forces families and the wider communities we serve.
Breathing New Life into Our Nuffield Lodges
Our Old Nuffield Ensuite Lodge and New Nuffield Bunkhouse have welcomed countless visitors over the years. Their communal lounges and dining areas have always been at the heart of Lodge life — places where friendships are formed, adventures are shared and families come together.
Thanks to this funding, we have been able to refresh these much-loved spaces with six new sofas, two large televisions, three dining tables and 26 dining chairs.
These improvements are about much more than new furniture. They're about creating spaces where guests can truly relax, enjoy each other's company and feel at home in the heart of the Cairngorms.
The final stage of the project will see four smaller televisions installed in our ensuite rooms and British Legion Adaptive Suite, offering guests additional comfort and privacy during their stay.
Supporting Our Veterans and Their Families
Since 2008, the Scottish Veterans Fund has supported projects that make a positive difference to veterans and their families across Scotland.
We are incredibly grateful to be among the organisations receiving this support. As an independent charity with a proud military heritage, Rothiemurchus Lodge is committed to providing affordable accommodation where those who have served, and their loved ones, can enjoy time together, reconnect with nature and take a well-deserved break from everyday life.
Our sincere thanks go to the Scottish Veterans Fund and the Scottish Government for making these improvements possible. Their investment is helping us preserve the Lodge's unique character while ensuring its facilities continue to meet the needs of future generations.
Looking Ahead: The Transformation of Castle Hill Lodge
While we're celebrating these improvements, another exciting project is already taking shape.
Work is underway to transform Castle Hill Lodge, the former Lodge Manager's house, into a beautiful, self-contained retreat nestled within the peaceful surroundings of Rothiemurchus.
Our vision is to create a welcoming space particularly suited to families seeking privacy, rest and respite — somewhere they can step away from everyday pressures and enjoy the restorative beauty of the Highlands.
This ambitious renovation is currently being funded through the charity's own resources. It represents another important step in our journey to develop Rothiemurchus Lodge and expand the ways we can support our visitors.
Projects such as these remind us what a difference thoughtful investment can make. With the continued encouragement of our community, partners and supporters, we're excited about what the future holds.
We'll be sharing more of Castle Hill Lodge's transformation in the coming months, so follow our News page and social media channels to see how the project develops.
For now, we look forward to welcoming guests into our refreshed Nuffield Lodges and sharing the improvements that have been made possible through the generosity of the Scottish Veterans Fund.
Every improvement, however big or small, is another step towards securing a welcoming and sustainable future for Rothiemurchus Lodge.
